The Promise of Eternal Life
The human being have always tried to achieve the eternal life since the moment of the conscious appearing. The eternal life is promised by world religious, the eternal life is promised by fame and great historical achievements and the eternal life is promised now by bio -science and the last scientific discoveries. It looks like in a very short period of time the person can live forever with the help of neural networks, which will renew his cells, with the help of mind copying and its transplantation to another body. The promise of eternal life today is not a question of mysticism anymore but the ordinary practice which is coming to our life and change it. But how long is the promise of eternal life going to be just a promise? And who will be able to life forever? As we know «Not everyone will be taken to future».
Contemporary person always falls out from the space of ordinary reality which displaces him and pushes away by its mechanical boredom into the space of virtual world created by himself where the person becomes the main character, the most important and the most significant. The creation of such kind of the world (we can call it image, style, self-brand) is more or less now a standard practice which displaces the mind of the person from the ordinary reality to the virtual space where the promise of eternal life can become real.
Ivan Plusch finds the visual interpretation of this phenomena in his works. His characters appear to be in the ordinary reality which is depicted mechanically through the creation of sponge pattern or monotonous destruction of the background. These characters become the flows of painting which is symbolizing permanent destruction, disappearing, the moving of time and impossibility to stay. But those character who are able to create around them the shell of their own imaginary world have the hope to live in this world forever, may be partly but fulfill the promise of eternal life.
This practice of creating own world and living inside of it reminds of psychological disorder - autism, when the person creates his own world and live inside of it which is also connected with the alienation from the outer world. Autism today is getting more and more common disease. The life today provokes person to create imaginary world and it is possible that the disorders inside of the autism spectrum is going to become a norm as the light version of schizophrenia nowadays (Karl Jung). It is a personal story for Ivan Plauch as the he has autism spectrum disorder himself. In his artistic practice Ivan Plusch projects himself to his characters and imagines the world for them where they can stay and by this artist fulfills the promise of eternal life.
